I have read the book of Revelation many times, and as I have read through the seven seals (in chapter 6) I was always struck with the devastation that would be upon the earth in the future. However, recently, as I have again begun to read this mysterious book, I noticed something about the first four seals that I had not seen before. I saw a distinct pattern of socialism.
First Seal: Rev. 6:1-2
I watched as the Lamb opened the first of the seven seals. Then I heard one of the four living creatures say in a voice like thunder, “Come!” 2 I looked, and there before me was a white horse! Its rider held a bow, and he was given a crown, and he rode out as a conqueror bent on conquest.
Here we see that a rider on a white horse has a bow and he has been given a crown. The bow without arrows implies that he is one who will conquer the people and gain peace by threat of war, but without bloodshed; and the crown indicates that people have elected him to be their leader (their king).
And isn’t this the way socialism starts? The people elect a socialist leader and he takes control of the government. At first all will love him. He is a great leader and seems to care for the people’s needs—at least that is what he says.
Second Seal: Rev. 6:3-4
When the Lamb opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, “Come!” 4 Then another horse came out, a fiery red one. Its rider was given power to take peace from the earth and to make men slay each other. To him was given a large sword.
Here the red horse is symbolic of war and bloodshed. The sword is actually a short assassins’ sword. The picture I see here is what always takes place in the early stages of socialism, particularly when leaders revolt and the people no longer want to be controlled. The supreme leader and his government step in to assassinate the rebellious leaders and then start killing the people who are causing trouble. Sort of like what is happening now in Iran and other socialist countries.
Third Seal: Rev. 6:5-6
When the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come!” I looked, and there before me was a black horse! Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand. 6 Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, “A quart of wheat for a day’s wages, and three quarts of barley for a day’s wages, and do not damage the oil and the wine!”
Here the black horse signifies famine. The combination of war, government control, corruption, taxes, and little incentive of the people to produce has created this world-wide famine. Something we have seen in Russia and North Korea, and recently in Venezuela. It’s a sad situation. Something that is always inevitable in socialists’ countries.
Fourth seal: Rev. 6:7-8
When the Lamb opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature say, “Come!” 8 I looked, and there before me was a pale horse! Its rider was named Death, and Hades was following close behind him. They were given power over a fourth of the earth to kill by sword, famine and plague, and by the wild beasts of the earth.
Here the pale horse is characteristic of a decomposed corpse. A fourth of the earth will die by the sword, by famine, and also by wild beasts. This is the sad result of socialism. And it is what is happening right now in Venezuela and all over the world.
I have just started to read Rand Paul’s book, The Case Against Socialism. So far in my reading Paul talks a lot about the country of Venezuela, how it use to be the richest country in South America. But since it was taken over by Chavez and then Maduro, in just a few short years the country has been destroyed. Individuality, creativity, and ambition are gone. The people now live in poverty and despair.
When the country was taken over by Chavez, Bernie Sanders and others were so hopeful that the country would do great things. I wonder what he is saying now. You see people eating out of garbage cans. People go around hunting dogs and cats for food. You see people waiting in long lines for hours at grocery stores. Many who are sick end up dying because of a great medicine shortage. So you see that socialism in Venezuela has poisoned everything.
But surprisingly people don’t see it. They are blinded to it by their own greed and laziness. Rand Paul points out that 55% of millennials favor socialism. And that is mainly because they really don’t know what it is. In a survey only 16% identified socialism as government controlled.
Well, I don’t mean to be negative, but, as we see in Revelation, socialism will be world-wide, and I think it is coming soon. What we see in the seals is during the 7 year Tribulation. But we see it already in many countries. It is coming soon!
What can we do? The answer is to believe in the Lord. Trust in Him and He will help you go through all the troubles of this world. And when He comes—soon—He will take you with Him to Heaven—to be with the Father.
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. (John 14:1-3)
