Though President Trump gave an excellent SOTU address, everyone noticed that none of the Democrats (except Joe Manchin a couple times) stood and applauded anything he said. In fact 12 Dems didn’t attend and some of them wore all black as a sign of protest. It seems clear that no matter what the President would have said they would have resisted against it.
Here are a few of the accomplishments the President reported on the SOTU, and for none of these things the Dems stood and applauded.
- Many new jobs
- Unemployment at an all-time low
- The stock market way up
- Almost 100% of ISIS defeated
- Our motto is “In God we trust”
And there are many more good things the President spoke about, which all the Republicans stood for and applauded.
Now the question is why? Why are the Democrats so resistant to anything Trump says or does? They all appear to be united in their resisting. Why?
- Some say they are resisting Trump because they hate him.
- Maybe they are resisting against republicans, because Trump wasn’t supposed to win the election.
These reason are both true, but I think largely they are resisting God!
In Romans 13:1-2 Paul instructed us that all authority—including the President—is established by God, and anyone who resists this authority is resisting God. Now if one person resists and is punished, how much more will God punish an entire party who resists Him in unity. It will soon be a sad day for them.
Let every person be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God. 2 Therefore he who resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God; and they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves.
In Acts 7:51-52 Stephen spoke of those who resisted the Holy Spirit as they persecuted the prophets.
You stiff-necked people, with uncircumcised hearts and ears! You are just like your fathers: You always resist the Holy Spirit! 52 Was there ever a prophet your fathers did not persecute? They even killed those who predicted the coming of the Righteous One. And now you have betrayed and murdered him.
In Numbers 16:1-11 is the account of how certain people resisted the authority of Moses and Aaron. How shameful.
Korah son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and certain Reubenites — Dathan and Abiram, sons of Eliab, and On son of Peleth — became insolent 2 and rose up against Moses. With them were 250 Israelite men, well-known community leaders who had been appointed members of the council. 3 They came as a group to oppose Moses and Aaron and said to them, “You have gone too far! The whole community is holy, every one of them, and the Lord is with them. Why then do you set yourselves above the Lord’s assembly?”
4 When Moses heard this, he fell facedown. 5 Then he said to Korah and all his followers: “In the morning the Lord will show who belongs to him and who is holy, and he will have that person come near him. The man he chooses he will cause to come near him. 6 You, Korah, and all your followers are to do this: Take censers 7 and tomorrow put fire and incense in them before the Lord. The man the Lord chooses will be the one who is holy. You Levites have gone too far!”
8 Moses also said to Korah, “Now listen, you Levites! 9 Isn’t it enough for you that the God of Israel has separated you from the rest of the Israelite community and brought you near himself to do the work at the Lord’s tabernacle and to stand before the community and minister to them? 10 He has brought you and all your fellow Levites near himself, but now you are trying to get the priesthood too. 11 It is against the Lord that you and all your followers have banded together. Who is Aaron that you should grumble against him?”
It is my prayer that these Democrats will decide not to resist anymore, but will begin to see President Trump as the one God has chosen and given to this country. Please pray with me that they will come together and reason together before the Lord and decide to confess their sins of rebellion and follow Him.
