Punishment for Sanctuary City Criminals Is the Best Thing for Them

It is absolutely wrong for Governors and Mayors to provide sanctuary for illegal immigrants, especially for those who have committed crimes. They are doing them no favors by harboring them; for it is God’s will that they receive whatever punishment is due them under the law.

Nahum 1:3 says, “The Lord will by no means leave the guilty unpunished.”

Yes, God in His justice will punish the guilty, if not now then later. But He desires that it be as soon as possible. That is why He has appointed our earthly governing authorities to execute the punishment (His punishment) of criminals. Thus we all are to be subject to our governing authorities as to God (Rom. 13:1-4).

Now the reason I am suggesting that it is the best thing for those who have committed crimes to receive their punishment as soon as possible, is because, first of all, it is God’s will. And whatever is His will is best—even though we may not understand. But beyond that, though we all know that all punishment is painful, if there is an acknowledgment of sin, God will bring peace and cleaning to the heart (1 Jn. 1:9).

Those governors and Mayors who think they are doing illegal immigrants a favor by harboring them in sanctuary cities are dead wrong. The best thing they can do for them is to hand them over to the Federal authorities—ICE, where they will receive the opportunity to correct whatever wrong they have committed.

We need to pray for our authorities to do what is right and to be wise.
